To Avoid – „Passion And Pain“
To Avoid claim to be ‚German Electronic Terrorists‘! The band has already been active for several years, having released different albums, but never got signed to a label. The band has for sure the potential to get the attention of an electronic label although I think there are an impressive number of bands making similar music. The 1st part from the EP features 5 songs. „Lying Eyes“ is a quite accurate song with a cool tune and a rather typical dark electro style of singing. The vocals on „Passion And Pain“ remind me a bit of Peter Spilles (Project Pitchfork, Santa Hates You). In my opinion, the best song is the last one entitled „War Nurse“. It was written with cool sounds, efficient samplings and a carrying tune. The 2nd part of the release features 6 remixes. We get an interesting list of bands like Necro Facility, Cephalgy and Second Disease as the most famous names. The „CrucifiEd(it)“ remix of „Passion And Pain“ by Amnistia has as trong 90s taste, but is quite well-crafted. Cephalgy did a better job on the same song by reinforcing the EBM vibes. „Passion And Pain“ also inspired our Belgian Stin Scatzor in another strong EBM „Remake“. I personally expected more out of the Necro Facility remix, but the song „Against The Current“ maybe wasn’t the most inspiring one. A rather average release although you feel that To Avoid can do better!
